He Has Called You by Your Name

Many people know our name. Certainly Google knows our name. But in the frenzy of this troubled world, can we hope that God knows our name??

Names are very important to Yahuwah Elohim [the Hebrew name for the LORD God]!

Yahuwah has great respect for names! Attention to names is part of His nature. He gives attention to everything, even to the smallest detail, including the number of hairs on our head!! He also knows the number of stars in the universe, as well as every star’s name (Luke 12:7; Psalms 147:4)!

If Yahuwah knows every star’s name, then we can be confident that Yahuwah knows every detail about us, including our name:

But now thus saith Yahuwah that created you, O Jacob, and He that formed you, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed you, I have called you by your name; you are mine (Isaiah 43:1).

His own sheep … hear His voice [the Shepherd’s voice]: and He calls His own sheep by name, and He leads them out. Yahushua [Jesus] said… “I am the Good Shepherd” (see John 10:1-18).

The Scriptures tell us that the heavenly Father knows our name! He knows us intimately! He sees us all the time, and He completely understands us.

He understands us because He has known us from the moment of conception, when He imparted life into us at the first “spark of life“, when we were first created in the depths of our mother’s womb!

So when God Almighty calls us, He will not be saying, “Uh… Hey… What’s your name??”

No, certainly not!! He calls His own sheep by their own name!

potters_wheel_clay_sculpt Father tells us that we are His workmanship (Ephesians 2:10). Yahuwah Elohim is the Master Potter, and we are the work of His hands. We are the clay in our Father’s sensitive and loving hands. He created us and put us here, and He wants you to know Him as your heavenly Father!

Every artist knows every detail of the work of his own hands. The same is true of Yahuwah [the LORD].

Each one of us is God’s personal masterpiece, a precious work-in-progress. He knows our talents, our strengths, and our weaknesses. And He surely knows our name!

Names identify people. When our name is spoken, it identifies us an individual, and everything about us. The very name of a person carries with it that person’s character and personality.

If we say, “Oh look! There goes David!” then that is only part of a name. But if we say, “Oh look! There goes King David, son of Jesse!” then we know automatically the character and personality of that indiviual. Our full name is very important to the heavenly Father because it sets us apart as a specific, particular individual! The heavenly Father knows this.

Yahuwah knows our complete name — that we are “(your Name), son/daughter of (parent’s Name)”.

He knows the details of our exact, specific identity! This knowledge is part of the sensitivity He has toward us. We are His workmanship — His own personal ‘masterpieces.’

Guarding HIS Name

Names are so important to Yahuwah [the LORD], that He has commanded us to regard His own name with great respect and honour. This means that we are to take heed to know Yahuwah’s name, and to greatly respect His name! We are to carefully guard ourselves from treating Yahuwah’s name with any contempt or disrespect, as the Third Commandment tells us:

You shall not take the Name of Yahuwah your Elohim [the LORD your God] in vain, for Yahuwah will not hold him guiltless who takes His Name in vain [using it for an evil purpose]. (Exodus 20:7)

Give unto Yahuwah the glory due unto His Name; worship Yahuwah in the beauty of holiness. (Psalms 29:2)

Teach me Your way, O Yahuwah; I will walk in Your truth: unite my heart to fear Your Name. (Psalms 86:11)

He sent redemption unto His people: He hath commanded His covenant for ever: holy and reverend is His Name. (Psalms 111:9)

And blessed be His glorious Name for ever: and let the whole earth be filled with His glory; Amen, and Amen. (Psalms 72:19)

O Yahuwah our Master, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! (Psalms 8:9)

So I [Yahuwah Elohim] will make my holy Name known in the midst of my people Israel; and I will not let them pollute my holy Name any more: and the heathen shall know that I am Yahuwah, the Holy One in Israel. (Ezekiel 39:7)

These verses teach us the importance of our heavenly Father’s name — that His name is glorious, excellent, and holy [set-apart as special]. His name is as a strong tower of defense against the enemy: Through Your name, Yahuwah, we tread down our enemies! (Psalms 44:5; Proverbs 18:10; Psalms 124:8)

Father surely wants us to know His name, because in His written Word, the Holy Bible, His name appears nearly seven thousand times!

The Name of His Son

Names are especially important for ambassadors. Ambassadors represent the particular qualities of someone, or they represent the specific people of a country. An ambassador is a character witness, a spokesperson, a voice for someone. Ambassadors go forth in the NAME of the one they represent.

This is exactly what Yahuwah’s Son did!

Yahuwah Elohim [the LORD God] sent His Son, Yahushua Messiah [the Hebrew name for Jesus Christ], to this earth as His ambassador to fully represent the Yahuwah’s identity, character, and personality. Notice what Yahushua said:

I am come in my Father’s name, and you receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him you will receive. (John 5:43)

For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of Him that sent me. (John 6:38)

I and my Father are one. (John 10:30)

These Scriptures teach us that Yahushua Messiah represents Yahuwah Elohim in every way! Even their names are very similar, which is noteworthy because this is one of the ways that Father reveals His nature to us — through the meaning of His Son’s name “Yahu-shua,” which means Yahuwah Saves!

The frequency of Yahushua Messiah’s name appearing in the written Scriptures is also significant. Yahushua’s name appears nearly one thousand times in the Bible! Just like His own name, Father wants us to be sure to read Yahushua’s name, to see it, to know it, to honour it, and to respectfully speak it!

It is vital for us to know the name of Yahuwah’s Son, because it is only through the name of Yahushua Messiah that we come to the Father. And . . . whatever we pray [ask] for, we are to ask the Father in Yahushua’s name:

Yahushua [Jesus] saith unto him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” (John 14:6)

And in that day you shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I [Yahushua] say unto you, Whatsoever you shall ask the Father in my name, He will give it you. (John 16:23)

And whatsoever you shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it. (John 14:13-14)

These verses reveal the importance of calling upon the name of Yahuwah’s Son, Yahushua [Jesus].

First, we call upon the name of Yahushua so that we can be saved, rescued, and delivered (Joel 2:32; Romans 10:13). The first time we sincerely call upon the name of Yahushua Messiah for salvation, then we are birthed into His family. When we become born of the Spirit, Father, by His mercy, then writes our name into the Lamb’s Book of Life (Psalms 71:5-6; Ephesians 3:9; Colossians 1:14-17; John 3:3-8; Revelation 21:27; 2Peter 3:9)!

Second, we ask [pray] in the name of Yahushua Messiah, so that Father will hear our prayers, and answer us!

What an awesome and glorious and powerful name!!

Yahushua’s name is the “name which is above every name: that at the name of Yahushua [Jesus] every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; and that every tongue should confess that Yahushua Messiah [Jesus Christ] is Master, to the glory of God the Father!” (Philippians 2:9-11)

Father Knows Us Personally

Do you see how important names are to the heavenly Father?

When we understand the great emphasis that Father assigns to His own name and to His Son’s name, then we can be certain that our own name — whether it be plain or fancy, common or unusual — it is very important to the heavenly Father.

We should be full of gladness and great rejoicing that Father knows us personally and intimately, that He wants to write our very name in heaven! (Luke 10:20). When He writes our name in heaven [surely writing our complete name], then we have been singled out by Him for His eternal purposes.

Yahuwah selects us, chooses us, picks us up out of problems and messiness — He chooses us out of all others in this world.

He sets us apart for Himself, and we now belong to Him! And, He is so merciful to give His children a comfort and a peace deep within us, a peace that the world can not steal from us (Psalms 78:70; John 15:19; Ephesians 1:3-6; John 14:27)!

An Ambassador for Messiah

And now, because we are followers of Yahushua Messiah, we also are to be His ambassadors — ambassadors to represent and to speak on Messiah’s behalf (2Corinthians 5:20).

We are on a pilgrim’s journey, traveling through this world, sometimes feeling like a stranger, but always being an ambassador for Messiah. Everywhere we go and in everything we do, we seek to honour the excellent name of Yahuwah Elohim, and the wonderful name of His Son, Yahushua Messiah.

At times, we may walk through some lonely valleys, or some agonizing trials. Yet with Father’s help, we will represent Him and His name with respect and purity.

Our heart’s desire is to follow Him, keeping His commandments, and doing those things that are pleasing in His sight — so that we can be a good character witness, representing Yahuwah and HIS name, with honour and dignity. (Luke 21:19; Psalms 34:4-6; 50:15; 55:16-18; 1John 3:22).

Yahuwah certainly knows His ambassadors! He has selected each one of us, and He is now living within us, giving us the grace to accomplish the good works He has ordained and assigned for us.

Can you not see His love for you in countless ways? Oh how wonderful His abundant goodness and grace is – given to us daily, moment by moment!!

Oh Dear Reader, trust Him and love Him with all your heart, all the days of your life!

May you honour His holy name in all that you do, no matter how small your task may be – for He is indeed interested in everything you do!

He created you. He put you here in this world. He knows every single thing about you!

And . . . He has called YOU by your name!
