Let Us Follow On To Know Yahuwah

King David desired to follow on to know Yahuwah Elohim [the Hebrew name for the LORD God]. David asked Yah for understanding, good judgment and knowledge, according to God’s (written) Word (Psalms 119:66; 73; 116; 169).

King David had tasted of the lovingkindness of Yahuwah, therefore . . . he wanted more! (Psalms 36:7-10)

When I became a follower of Yahuwah’s Son, Yahushua Messiah [the Hebrew name for Jesus Christ], my desire to know Him started to grow [and continues to grow]. As I began to walk in His Ways, obeying His written Word, my knowledge of His love and truth increased.

The knowledge of the True, Living God brought me the peace and satisfaction I was longing for. The knowledge of Yahuwah’s love and truth was [and continues to be] as ‘cold waters to my thirsty soul!’

The prophet Hosea tells us,

“Come, and let us return unto Yahuwah [the LORD] . . .
Then shall we know, IF we follow on
to know Yahuwah…”
(Hosea 6:1-3).

If we will return to following Yahuwah,
if we will follow, run after, pursue Yahuwah,
then, as Hosea tells us, a principle of God’s truth begins to operate!

The principle is:

walking-feet-grey-gravel

the more we follow after Yahuwah [His ways, His Word, His truth], walking in His ways, then the more we will know and understand of our Heavenly Father!

We will then begin to discover the refreshing and rewarding nature of following after Yahuwah Elohim [the LORD God]!

If we follow after Yahuwah, desiring to know Him, seeking to obey His written Word, walking in His ways, then we shall know Him more, desire Him more, and love Him more! We will want to continue to walk in obedience, pursuing more of Him!

No one can claim to possess an ‘insider’s secret’ to knowing Yahuwah. Our Heavenly Father is the Eternal, Living, Mighty Creator! And we are dust. Like the apostle Paul, we must admit:

O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are His judgments, and His ways past finding out! (Romans 11:33)

But there is something within us that yearns for more of Yah, always chasing after more of Him and the knowledge of His truth!

As we saw in Seeking God With All Our Heart, it is the genuine desire of Born-Again Believers to want to know Yahuwah and His truth! And . . . it is our Heavenly Father’s desire that everyone would come to know Him, and begin to learn the knowledge of the truth (1Timothy 2:3b-4)!

In these days of amazing technology and the internet, knowledge of every kind is readily available today! This confirms the words of the prophet Daniel, and his insight into the End-Time Days:

“… the time of the end – many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.” (Daniel 12:4)

There are many different kinds of knowledge to be found — knowledge of science/mathematics, knowledge of nature/animals, knowledge of the stars/outer space, the sea/water creatures, weather, history, medicine. The list is endless.

Lack of Knowing Yahuwah

The above list is not bad, in and of itself. Father’s awesome creation, and all the things that have been discovered and invented — these things are truly amazing and wonderful things to observe and study. Many people, however, have the knowledge of a thousand different things, yet they have little or no knowledge of God! Many people are wise in the things of this world, but they know nothing of Yah’s goodness and wisdom!

Yahuwah tells us, through the prophet Jeremiah:

“For My people are foolish; they have not known Me; they are stupid sons, and they have no understanding. They are wise to do evil, but to do good, they have no knowledge (no knowledge of Yahuwah’s Instructions and Ways).” (Jeremiah 4:22; See also! Isaiah 5:13 and Hosea 4:6)

Sadly, some will even say, “We desire not the knowledge of God” (Job 21:14).

Indeed, many of Father’s own children lack the true and full knowledge of Him, because they have rejected much of His written WORD – the Bible. Because of this lack of knowing Yahuwah’s pure Word, many are failing to love and obey the heavenly Father. Today we can see the results of this lack of knowing Yahuwah. It is just as the apostle Paul warned:

“… in the last days … men shall be lovers of their own selves, … despisers of those that are good, … lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away” (2Timothy 3:1-5).

But Can We Truly Know Yahuwah?

Can we come to truly know Yahuwah Elohim, the LORD God of Israel? Yes, we can! Coming to know the Heavenly Father is not difficult. He desires for everyone to know Him, and to come to the knowledge of the truth. He has made it very simple to know Him, as we saw in Faith Comes!

It is true that knowing Yahuwah is a life-time process, yet each one of us can take steps toward knowing Him better. Simple ‘baby steps’ in obeying the written Word of Yahuwah is the key to knowing Him!

[If you have never begun the First Step in knowing the Heavenly Father, then please see the brief article: Good News!]

When our knowledge of Yahuwah’s written Word increases, and we obey His truth, then grace and peace is multiplied toward us (2Peter 1:2)! If we will take God’s Word into our heart by reading/studying and apply it to our lives, then the truth of Yahuwah’s Word is able to edify us, that is to instruct us and strengthen us!

Yahuwah’s written Word is the very Word of the living God! It is food for our spirit that will strengthen our inner-most-being with His grace, as the apostle Paul said:

the word of His grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified (Acts 20:32).

Taking Yah’s written Word as food for our spirit, strengthens us to be valiant for God!! And we will discover, just as King Hezekiah, the prophet Job, King David, and the apostle Paul declared — that the knowledge of Yahuwah is good, perfect, wonderful, and excellent!

A Caution

There is a caution to consider in our quest to ‘press on’ to know Yahuwah. We must guard against a knowledge of Yahuwah that is only ‘head-knowledge.’ Head-knowledge alone leaves us empty and without the growing increase of our life of faith. The evidence of possessing only ‘head-knowledge’ is characterized by two things:

  1. a refusal to adjust our ways, and
  2. a refusal to turn away from disobedience.

But . . . if we will begin to …

1) make the adjustments and
2) begin to obey the written Word of Yahuwah,

then we will begin to gain what is called ‘heart-knowledge.’

When we allow the Scriptures to change our behaviour, then we will truly begin to ‘know’ the heavenly Father. Heart-knowledge of Yahuwah Elohim and His WORD, begins with our obedience to His written Word. The Holy Spirit will bear witness with our spirit when we are walking in agreement and harmony with Father’s Word and truth (1John 5:6), resulting in a joy from our obedience.

Heart-knowledge begins to increase when we have a firm commitment to obeying the Scriptures as they are, and not following a twisted version of men’s doctrines! We must be seeking the purity of Father’s written Word, along with the confirming guidance given us through the Holy Spirit, and then we must earnestly desire to repent of any disobedience!

[It is so important that we make sure our version of God’s Word [the Bible] is pure, and does not contain any of men’s twisted additions and eliminations! (see the warnings in Deuteronomy 4:2; Proverbs 30:5,6; Revelation 22:18,19) The safest version to stay with is the King James Version. If you are sincere in following Yahuwah, then He will be faithful to make sure you understand the purity of His Word!]

We will gain a deep conviction of the Holy Spirit’s leading whenever we maintain the principle of establishing our direction through two or three witnesses that are in harmony with God’s written Word (2Corinthians 13:1b). The Holy Spirit’s guidance will not contradict the written Scriptures! When we combine our head-knowledge of the Scriptures, with our obedience to the Scriptures, then we will begin to know Yahuwah, in our heart, as our loving Father!!

[The two or three witnesses are . . . the Scriptures and/or circumstances that are in complete harmony with God’s written Word, confirming the truth of His direction.]

The Spirit of Adoption

Knowing Yahuwah as our Daddy, comes from obeying what the Scriptures tell us, and being obedient to the leading of the Holy Spirit! Father wants a relationship with us!! In relating to Him, we spend time with Him, we talk with Him and He with us, and we freely call to Him as our “Abba Father” — our Daddy:

For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father (Romans 8:14, 15).

As this passage teaches us, we are the ‘adopted sons’ of the Most High, and we must desire to maintain our relationship with Father as obedient children. Every parent desires obedient children, including our heavenly Father. And obeying Father is easy when we come to Him in our secret prayer times, as His little child (see Matthew 11:28-30 and 1John 5:2-5).

Our knowledge of the truth of Yahuwah’s written Word must be joined with our obedience to His Word! As we study His written Word for ourselves, and obey Him, then more and more, the sensitive and gentle love of the Holy Spirit will be shed abroad in our hearts (Romans 5:5). This is the agape love — Father’s self-less love — that comes from the Holy Spirit!

Obedience to Yahuwah’s Word, along with the guidance of the Holy Spirit [which will always be in harmony with Yah’s written Word], will edify us and strengthen us. This is the essence of abiding in Him (John 15:10; 1John 2:6). By maintaining our secret prayer times with Father, we learn better to be sensitive and obedient to the Holy Spirit’s leading. This is how we can avoid the emptiness and the hypocrisy that results from ‘head-knowledge’ only! Knowledge alone results in being puffed up with pride (1Corinthians 8:1).

Knowledge of Many Things

“EVERY man naturally desires knowledge; but what good is knowledge without the fear of God?

What would it profit us to know the whole Bible by heart, or to know the principles of all the philosophers, if we live without grace and the love of God?

There are many things the knowledge of which does little or no good to the soul. He who concerns himself about things other than those which lead to salvation is very unwise. Indeed a humble rustic who serves God is better than a proud intellectual who neglects his soul.

If you think you know many things and understand them well enough, realize at the same time that there is much you do not know! Hence, do not pretend wisdom, but admit your ignorance.

If you wish to learn and appreciate something worth while, then love to be unknown and considered as nothing. To think of oneself as nothing, and always to think well and highly of others is [a] most perfect wisdom.

All men are frail, but you must admit that none is more frail than yourself. Vanity of vanities and all is vanity (worthlessness), except to love God and serve Him alone.” — Thomas a Kempis

How Can We Come to Truly Know Yahuwah?

Let’s now summarize how we can come to know Yahuwah better by listing a few specific Scriptures.

It is important to remember that following on to ‘know’ Yahuwah is also the desire of the heavenly Father. Yahuwah wants us to know Him! He longs for a relationship with each one of us. The Heavenly Father has given us His Word to help us know how to come to Him and be in relationship with Him. If we therefore want to know Him, all we have to do is learn what His written Word says and begin to obey it!

Here are only seven Scriptures that give us clues for how to know Yahuwah, and how to know His Truth:

1And this is life eternal, that they might know You, the only true God, and Yahushua Messiah [Jesus Christ], whom You have sent. (John 17:3) Knowing Yahushua Messiah [Jesus Christ] is the First Step!

2.  Yahushua said: … believe the works (that I do): that you may know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in Him. (John 10:38) According to the Biblical definition, ‘believing’ means to begin DO-ing Yah’s Word, which is to be an on-going practice!

3Speak also unto the children of Israel, saying, Truly my sabbaths you shall keep: for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that you may know that I am Yahuwah [the LORD] who sanctifies [sets apart] you. (Exodus 31:13) Keeping Yahuwah’s Sabbaths is to be a vital, on-going practice!

4Moreover also I gave them my sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I am Yahuwah [the LORD] that sanctifies [sets apart] them. And hallow my sabbaths; and they shall be a sign between me and you, that you may know that I am Yahuwah Elohim [the LORD your God]. (Eze 20:12, 20) Again, the importance of keeping Yahuwah’s Sabbaths is a KEY on-going activity in knowing Yahuwah!

5You are my witnesses, says Yahuwah [the LORD], and my servant whom I have chosen [Yahushua]: that you may know and believe me, and understand that I am He: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me. (Isaiah 43:10) Father emphasizes again that knowing His Chosen One, His Son, is necessary for knowing Him!

6These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may believe on the name of the Son of God.  (1John 5:13)  Again, the Scripture emphasizes belief in Yahushua, which should result in being an active DO-er of Yah’s Word!

7.  Yahushua said:  If any man will do His will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself. (John 7:17) Another Scripture that stresses the importance of being a Do-er of Yah’s Word in order to know God!

Willing and Obedient

Four important and regular activities for knowing Yahuwah include:

  • Learning and obeying Father’s written Word – as it is [with no twisted deceptions],
  • Cultivating the Fruit of the Spirit,
  • Maintaining a regular time of Secret Prayer,
  • Discerning the leading of the Holy Spirit.

Little by little, as we practice these activities, our knowing the heavenly Father will grow stronger. The above list of Scriptural instructions are DO-able, if we have a determined commitment to follow after Yahuwah! IF we are willing and obedient, with Father’s help [His grace], then we shall know such blessings as —

“I can only understand God by His (written) Word. I cannot understand God by impressions or feelings; I cannot get to know God by sentiments. If I am going to know God, I am going to know Him by His Word. God is everything the Word says He is. We need to get acquainted with Him, through the Word.” — Smith Wigglesworth

Conclusion: Being Watchful

The End-Time Days are ‘perilous times,’ which is why Yahushua exhorts us to, Take heed that you be not deceived ” (Luke 21:8). With knowledge of every kind increasing at a rapid and blurry rate, we must be watchful, prayerful, and sober-minded! Let us consider therefore very carefully what we are taking in as ‘knowledge’! Let us make sure that we are pursuing God’s knowledge, which is pure, truth-FULL, good, and able to lead us to the saving of our souls! Let us guard against the utter foolishness of :  … ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth (2Timothy 3:7).

In conclusion, with Yahuwah’s enabling grace, we can come to the knowledge of His truth:

  • by hearing/reading/studying Yahuwah’s written Word,
  • by repenting of any disobedience, and
  • by being obedient to His truth — His written Word.

Let us therefore ask Father in our secret prayer times, for a genuine love of the Truth!

PRAY for a love for knowing Yahuwah as our Daddy,
pray for learning and knowing His written Words,
pray for obedience to His written Words, and
pray for knowing the leading of His Holy Spirit, as He leads us into all Truth.

Let us earnestly press in, follow on, run after, pursue — and follow on to know Yahuwah!
