The heavenly Father is on a constant search . . . searching throughout the whole earth to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose hearts are fully turned toward Him! (2Chronicles 16:9a)
Those who have a heart to truly love and honour Yahuwah Elohim [the Hebrew name for the LORD God], are those who are suitable to be chosen to fulfill His purposes.
Father searches for these special ones to be set-apart and ‘chosen.’
Do we ever consider how special it is to be ‘chosen‘ ?
Being ‘chosen’ is NOT an in-significant thing!
Think about what we go through ourselves, to make a choice. Sometimes we can be very picky when choosing something! Sometimes, it can take us several minutes, several days, or even several months, before we make a choice. Choosing is not always a simple thing.
Whom Does God Choose?
We, who love Yahuwah, the Mighty One of Israel, have been chosen, called-out, and set-apart! But what did Father go through to select His children? How does He make His choices? Can we know some of the qualities that Yahuwah uses for making His choices?
We can never be quite sure why Yahuwah selects one person and does not choose someone else. But whoever Father adopts, it is because He wants that particular person!
There is one passage in the Scripture that is a clue for this. Yahuwah has given us a list of certain qualities that He looks for when making His choices:
For you see your calling, brethren, how that
not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:
But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise;
and God has chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;
and base (lowly) things of the world,
and things which are despised, has God chosen, yea, and things which are not,
to bring to nothing things that are:
That no flesh should glory in His presence. (1Corinthians 1:26-29)
This is a very good passage for us to remember the next time we feel weak and inadequate for being chosen by Yahuwah. Consider the material Father chooses:
1. the foolish things of the world
2. the weak things of the world
3. the base (dishonorable, lowly, and common) things of the world
4. the things which are despised
5. the things which are not (in the eyes of the world)
What a wonderful list of qualities!
If the heavenly Father uses such qualities as part of His criteria for His choices, then there is no need for pretense, pride, or worry on our part. Yahuwah’s family is a wonderful bunch of half-witted, weak, lowly, despised and common children (as ‘the world’ sees us). I feel right at home! And may we love each and everyone of Yahuwah’s choices!!
Father loves His chosen children and He is not surprised by our weaknesses. This is why He has made His grace abundantly available for us! — for when we are weak, then He is strong on our behalf! (2Corinthians 12:10)
But, Yahuwah has a specific reason for the criteria for who He chooses:
that no flesh should glory in His presence!! Yes, may all the glory go to Him alone!
The wonderful thing to remember is that when Yahuwah adopts His children, it is because He wants us (each one of us) as His very own!
And, Yahuwah’s family is the best family in the universe. Each one of us is specifically chosen and accepted completely — “accepted in the Beloved!” (Ephesians 1:6)
So rest, Dear Reader, in His choice of choosing you! He considers you worthy, suitable, and completely accepted!
Now What Are We To Do?
Now that Yahuwah has set us apart and chosen us, what are we to do?
Yahuwah has a particular task for each one of us! Let’s see what it is:
… He [Yahuwah] has chosen us … before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy [‘set-apart’ as clean] and without blame before Him in love (Ephesians 1:4)
… brethren, beloved of the Lord, … God has from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of [‘set-apart’ by] the Spirit and belief of the truth (2Thessalonians 2:13)
As the above Scriptures teach us, all of us have the same FIRST task — the task to be holy:
- — the task to be set apart by His Holy Spirit
- — the task to be set apart by believing His truth
- — the task to maintain a ‘set apart’ life that is without blame before Him in love
Do we realize that this is your first task that He has for you? Does this sound strange? Is this the task you had in mind for yourself?
Chosen To Be Set Apart
Yes, Father has chosen us to be set-apart, to be devoted to His truth, and to allow the Holy Spirit to guide us into His truth.
When Yahuwah Elohim selects us, we are chosen according to His plan and purposes. And His plan for His chosen ones is to be ‘set-apart!’
“Set apart” means that there is a separation from the world that must begin with each one of us.
This separation can be painful because often the separation begins within close family and friend relationships. It is a separation that the heavenly Father coordinates! It is not something we have to create in our own efforts!!
But there must be a willingness, and a humility, on our part to yield to the Holy Spirit’s guidance in this matter of being ‘set apart’ from the ways of the world.
Father has chosen us to be ‘set apart’ — to be holy and without blame before Him in love. Therefore we must begin to step away from, and put away, worldliness, and its ways. We must begin to identify with Him and be willing to honour Him above all others (Matthew 10:32-33).
The Pattern of Separation
In the midst of being ‘set apart’ and separated, it is very important that we maintain a ‘right spirit’ toward all, and especially have a ‘right spirit’ toward our most immediate family members. Primarily, we need to maintain a respectful, yielded, and submissive attitude toward our parents and/or spouse and/or teachers, employers, and authorities.
As we saw in Part 2 of First the Natural, Then the Spiritual, our natural realm of circumstances has a profound connection to the spiritual realm. Maintaining a ‘right spirit’ in the natural realm is a necessary part of fulfilling the task that Father has chosen us for (Psalms 51:10-13).
A ‘right spirit’ will be a guard for us, guarding us against bitterness or resistance to Father’s ways.
However, be prepared for the ‘set apart-ness’ as a ‘chosen one.’ One of the consistent patterns of Yahuwah’s ‘chosen ones’ is separation. It is not unusual, just a necessary part of being chosen.
Noah, Abraham, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, David, Jeremiah, Paul — all of these experienced a separation.
Many of Father’s chosen ones experience a separation in one form or another. This is the nature of being chosen! We are selected, called out, and set apart for a particular task. Seeking to maintain a right spirit in the midst of this separation, keeps us sensitive and ready for His purposes.
“I Have Chosen You!”
Yahushua Messiah [the Hebrew name for Jesus Christ] has told us:
“No man can come to me, except the Father, who has sent me, draw him” (John 6:44).
“You have not chosen me, but I have chosen you!” (John 15:16)
Father, by His Holy Spirit, chose each one of us, and drew us to Him! It was not something we did on our own.
And HalleluYAH! He gave us a heart to love Him and a desire to walk with Him!
“… He who has begun a good work in you, will perform it until the day of Yahushua Messiah [Jesus Christ].” and “For it is God who works in you both to will and to do of His good pleasure.” (Philippians 1:6 and 2:13).
As these verses teach us, Father has begun a good work in us! Therefore, to fulfill this good work, we must begin to be sensitive and teachable to His dealings with us! We need to spend time with Him, learning His Word, talking to Him with the deepest and most open honesty — yielding to Him, cooperating with Him, and being ready for His direction.
The Treasure in Earthen Vessels
But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us. (2Corinthians 4:7)
This verse shows us that we, who are common, weak, fragile, earthen vessels — we have a TREASURE within us!!
What is this treasure?? — this excellency of His power??
- It is the light of the knowledge of the glory of God, in the face of Yahushua Messiah (2Corithians 4:6)!
- It is the salvation that the prophets inquired of and searched for diligently (1Peter 1:9-10)!
- It is knowing, and trusting in, Yahushua Messiah as Saviour and Redeemer (2Timothy 1:9-10)!
- It is being found in Him (Philippians 3:8b-9)!
- It is the mystery of Messiah-in-you, the hope of glory (2Corinthians 13:5 and Colossians 1:26-27)!
Messiah living within us is The Treasure!
The excellency of Yahuwah’s presence and power and grace — the ability He gives us to overcome. This is the treasure of Messiah in us!
This is awesome!
Do we treasure this Treasure? – are we allowing Him to live His life fully within us?
Are we seeking to cooperate with Him daily?
Are we crying out to Him for a heart that is united in following Him?
This is the kind of heart that Joshua and Caleb had — a heart devoted and set-apart for His use!
Chosen Vessels of Honor and Mercy
Father has chosen each one of us, knowing our weaknesses. He knew our ‘earthen’ frame from the start!
Yet . . . it is in our weaknesses that His strength, and provision, is made perfect. It is in our weaknesses that He makes known His glory:
Does not the potter [God] have power over the clay [you and me], from the same lump to make one vessel to honour and another to dishonour? What if God, willing to show His wrath and to make His power known, endured with much long-suffering, the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction; so that He might make known the riches of His glory on the vessels of mercy, which He had before prepared to glory… (Romans 9:21-23)
As this passage reveals, Father wants to show forth His honour and mercy and glory on us — His chosen vessels — earthen vessels — common, weak, and fragile vessels!
Yahuwah has already supplied us with all the things that pertain unto life and godliness, so that we might be a partaker of His divine nature (2Peter 1:3-4)!
Therefore, from all of Yahuwah’s abundant and overflowing provisions for us, we can easily see one of Father’s main reasons for chosing you and me . . .
He Chose You Because . . .
- He chose you because He loves you, and He considers you to be worthy, suitable, and beautiful (John 10:11, Romans 5:8, Romans 8:37 and Song of Songs 2:14)!
- He chose you because He desires to make known the riches of His glory in you, His child — you, a child of His choosing — you, who are among His chosen vessels (earthen/common), to be vessels of honour and mercy.
