God’s Word is often compared to Light. Just as light reveals direction, the written WORD of the LORD God [the Bible] reveals understanding and direction.
Whenever any light appears in the darkness, it a wonderful and welcomed thing! That is because if we are in darkness, we yearn for light!
One obvious feature of both natural light and spiritual light is direction! Whenever light pierces any darkness, the light always illuminates in a particular direction.
The Light from God’s Word gives us the much-needed direction, understanding, and the hope we are looking for:
The entrance of Your Words (O LORD) gives light; it gives understanding unto the simple (the sincere). (Psalms 119:130)
When the Light of God’s Word comes to us, and we begin to walk in [obey] the Truth of His written Word, then we begin to confidently know what direction to take. The understanding, insight, and direction that comes to us from God’s Light [His Truth] is a huge relief and comfort!
This is what I did. I began to read the Bible – reading the Gospel of John, the book of Romans, the Psalms and the Proverbs – reading because of the darkness of my uncertainty and confusion. And then, God’s Light came to me – understanding, direction, and relief came to me!
Darkness Is A Dreaded Thing
Being in darkness is like being covered with a thick, heavy blanket. Any darkness, whether natural or spiritual, causes uncertainty, and therefore when in darkness, we have no direction. But, if even a little bit of light penetrates the darkness, there comes direction, confidence, and great benefits!
If our life seems dark or confusing or depressing then that is a clue that we need the Light of God’s Words!
Walking in darkness means we will stumble, and will not know what we are stumbling over. Why? Because we have no light! Stumbling in spiritual darkness is evidenced by a life of hatred, stress, uncertainty, or a sense of depressing meaningless.
Sadly, some people love darkness and hate the Light – they hate the Truth of God’s Word. But those who love truth, will come to the Light [the Truth] of God’s Word [the Bible] (John 3:19-21; see also 2Thessalonians 2:8-12).
The Light of God’s Word
The apostle Peter compares God’s Word to “a light that shines in a dark place” (2Peter 1:19). This is a most fitting metaphor, because it clearly reveals the nature of the Words in the Bible. In the Psalms also, there is the comparison of God’s Word to Light:
“Your Word (O LORD) is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” (Psalms 119:105)
The Light of God’s WORD is the only piercing ray of Truth, understanding, and direction that can penetrate the spiritually heavy, dark blanket of worldly, selfish ways. Walking in God’s Light [His Truth] dissolves and dismantles the spiritual darkness of deception, worldly wisdom, selfishness, and demonic paths.
Any time we begin to walk in The Light of God’s Truth, even if just one particular Truth from God’s Word, we discover that God’s Light dispels the darkness of our confusion and deception, and gives us the direction we need!
Let Us Remember The Words Of Our Saviour
“Come unto Me, all of you who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and you shall find rest unto your souls.” (Matthew 11:28-29)
Jesus Christ (whose Hebrew name is Yahushua Messiah) calls us to ‘Come‘ to Him! He told us in John 14:6 that He is The Truth (John 14:6). So let us go to Him and call upon Him:
In the day of my trouble I will call upon You (O LORD): for You will answer me. (Psalms 86:7)
The LORD (Yahuwah Elohim) is near unto all them that call upon Him, to all that call upon Him in truth. (Psalms 145:18)
Jesus, the Messiah, is the WORD of GOD made flesh! He is The Way – the First Step to driving out darkness, to finding the understanding, the direction we need – to finding the Entrance into God’s Light!
