The annual Memorial Feast of Passover is again approaching. This is one of Father’s annual Feasts, as commanded of all believers, in Leviticus 23.
The Memorial Feast of Passover is the first of the year’s Spring Feasts gatherings for Yahuwah’s [the LORD ‘s] people. This memorial gathering is Father’s way of reminding His people of His great redemption by the blood of the Lamb, and of His mighty salvation and deliverance.
Yahuwah Elohim [the Hebrew name for the LORD God] has commanded all who follow Messiah to observe this Memorial Passover Feast throughout all generations, as we read in Exodus:
And this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and you shall keep it a feast to Yahuwah [the LORD] throughout your generations; you shall keep it a feast by an ordinance forever. (Exodus 12:14)
And you shall observe this thing [the Passover] for an ordinance to you and to your sons forever. (Exodus 12:24)
The Passover Feast is Father’s annual Feast/Meal gathering for us to remember His redemption and His deliverance — for the past, the present, and the future:
The Passover Memorial Feast remembers the past, by the re-telling of the story of Israel’s deliverance out of Egypt, by the blood of the sacrificial lamb.
The Passover Memorial Feast honours the present, by connecting the salvation and deliverance of Yahuwah’s people with the sacrifice of Yahushua Messiah [the Hebrew name for Jesus Christ], the Lamb of God.
The Passover Memorial Feast speaks of the future, by acknowledging the Marriage Supper of The Lamb in the New Jerusalem, when His Bride, who has been called to the marriage supper, has made herself ready.
Remembering Father’s Promises
Wherefore say unto the children of Israel, I am Yahuwah [the LORD], and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will rid [deliver] you out of their bondage, and I will redeem you with a stretched out arm, and with great judgments: And I will take you to me for a people, and I will be to you a God… (Exodus 6:6-7)
The above Scripture passage is an important part of the traditional Passover Memorial Feast, which emphasises these four promises stated by Father God. The Feast [also known as the Passover Seder] is the annual remembrance of these four promises of Yahuwah to His people:
- to separate His people,
- to deliver His people,
- to redeem His people, and
- to make His people His own special treasure.
These four promises are beautifully illustrated and exemplified in the four traditional cups we drink during the Passover Memorial Feast.
This Passover Feast is also the time for us to obey Yahushua’s command: “do this in remembrance of me“ — that is, the partaking of the body and blood of Messiah, just as He did with His disciples, and as He commanded us to do (Matthew 26:26-28; Luke 22:17-20; 1Corinthians 11:23-26).
Each year at Passover, it is the designated time to re-emphasise and renew our commitment to Father’s New Covenant with His people, through Messiah’s sacrifice.
At Passover we remember that Messiah is our Passover Lamb, who was sacrificed for us (1Corinthians 5:7-8). We also recall Father’s great promises of deliverance from the bondage of sin, and His abundant goodness and mercy as He leads us through the wilderness of this life!
Passover is the annual appointment to gather together as families with much thanksgiving for a very special appointment with our heavenly Abba (Daddy) Father.
The observance of the Passover Memorial Feast is just as significant as the keeping of the seventh-day Sabbath! Just as the seventh-day Sabbath was established before the giving of the Ten Commandments on Mt Sinai, so also the Passover Memorial Feast/Meal originated, and was established before Moses received the Ten Commandments on the mountain.
The Passover Memorial Feast is a night-time Feast/Meal at the beginning of the 14th Day of the first Biblical month, according to Messiah’s example. We need to be preparing now, as the first Biblical month approaches. The beginning of the first Biblical month occurs at the appearing of the new moon, along with the timing of the ripe barley.
Therefore let us prepare to heed the apostle Paul’s exhortation to observe this Feast, which is one of Father’s extremely significant and necessary ‘appointed times’ for all followers of Messiah:
Purge out therefore the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, as you are unleavened. For even Messiah [Christ] our passover is sacrificed for us: Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. (1Corinthians 5:7-8)
As the above verses teach us, Messiah Yahushua [Christ Jesus], the Lamb of God, our Passover Lamb, has been sacrificed for us! Therefore, let us keep this very special and significant appointed Feast!!
Let us prepare for this Memorial Feast, as well as its second companion Feast — the Feast of Unleavened Bread — by literally cleaning out our homes of all leavening, as the Torah instructs us in Deuteronomy 16:3-4. Let us also be cleaning out our hearts as well, cleansing ourselves of the leaven [sin] of malice and wickedness. Let us keep these Feasts with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth!
He Brought Us Out, That He Might Bring Us In
The Passover Memorial Feast is the annual appointed time for us to gather in our homes and remember Messiah’s sacrificial death, and to give praise, honour, and glory to Yahuwah for the mighty deeds He has done on behalf of His children! His mighty and wondrous deeds include:
- bringing us out of slavery into freedom,
- bringing us out of bondage into liberty,
- bringing us out of darkness into light,
- bringing us out of sorrow into joy, and
- bringing us out of mourning into dancing.
Notice Father’s purpose in bringing us out:
He brought us out from thence, that He might bring us in, to give us the land which He swore unto our fathers. (Deuteronomy 6:23)
The Memorial Passover Feast is the annual re-telling of Yahuwah’s awesome and wonderful redemption of bringing His people out! Father brings us out of bondage [HalleluYAH!!], so that He can bring us in — into His liberty, His kingdom, and His plans for His family!
Messiah tells us (Luke 22:19; 1Corinthians 11:25-26) that as followers of Messiah, we are to keep this Passover Feast, in remembrance of Him!
Therefore, Followers of Messiah, … let us keep the Passover feast!
