God’s Gift For His Children – The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is Father God’s very personal gift for His children.

The Holy Spirit is for those who have, with a sincere and repentant heart, come to Yahuwah Elohim [the Hebrew name for the LORD God] through His Son Yahushua Messiah [the Hebrew name for Jesus Christ].

The Scriptures teach that the Holy Spirit is the heavenly Father’s gift for His children — those who have been birthed into God’s family, those who have been Born-Again.

Yahushua [Jesus] said… And I will pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter, so that He may be with you forever, the Spirit of Truth, whom the world cannot receive because it does not see Him nor know Him. But you know Him, for He dwells with you and shall be in you. (John 14:16-17; see also 1Corinthians 2:14)

Yahushua [Jesus] said He would send us the Holy Spirit, who is The Comforter and is the Spirit of Truth:

When the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of Truth, who proceeds from the Father, He shall testify of Me.” (John 15:26)

The Pouring Out of the Holy Spirit is a Gift!

I like to receive gifts! And especially, I like a gift from the heavenly Father. I want any gift He wants to give me!

Then Peter said to them, Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ to remission of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. (Acts 2:38)

And those of the circumcision, who believed (as many as came with Peter), were astonished because the gift of the Holy Spirit was poured out on the nations also. (Acts 10:45; see also Acts 11:17)

This gift of the Holy Spirit is the fulfillment of a promise that God made many, many years before Messiah came to the earth:

So says Yahuwah [the LORD] who made you, and formed you from the womb, who will help you; Fear not, O Jacob My servant, and you, Yeshurun, whom I have chosen. For I will pour water on him who is thirsty, and floods on the dry ground. I will pour My spirit on your seed, and My blessing on your offspring. (Isaiah 44:2-3)

And I [Yahuwah/the LORD] will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within you; and I will take the stony heart out of their flesh, and will give them an heart of flesh: That they may walk in My statutes, and keep My ordinances, and do them: and they shall be My people, and I will be their God. (Ezekiel 11:19-20)

And it shall be afterward, I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh. And your sons and your daughters shall prophesy; your old men shall dream dreams; your young men shall see visions. (Joel 2:28)

As we can see from the above verses, the prophets Isaiah, Ezekiel, and Joel prophesied the promise that Yahuwah Elohim would pour out His Spirit upon His children. The pouring out of this gift — Yahuwah’s Holy Spirit — first began 50 days after Messiah’s resurrection, on the Day of Pentecost, when all the disciples were filled with the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:1-4).

So what is the purpose of this gift? What is the Holy Spirit’s mission?

The Holy Spirit’s mission is Two-Fold:

First:

When He, the Spirit of Truth is come, He will guide you into all truth (John 16:13).

As this verse teaches, the Holy Spirit’s mission is to guide us into all truth. This is why the Father wants us to receive His Holy Spirit. The heavenly Father wants us to know the truth regarding Who He is, regarding His creation, regarding His guidelines, and regarding ourselves.

Yahuwah Elohim, the heavenly Father, loves us and wants us to know His pathway and stay in His pathway. He does not want us stray away from the pathway of His truth given in His Word. Therefore, He gives us the gift of His Holy Spirit as our personal Guide to help us stay in His pathway.

And Yahuwah is eager to give us His Holy Spirit:

If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask Him? (Luke 11:13)

As we can see by this verse, Father is very willing to give the Holy Spirit to them that sincerely ask Him!

He Shall Glorify the Son of God

Yahushua Messiah [Jesus Christ] gives us clear insight into the Holy Spirit’s guidance:

Howbeit when He, the Spirit of Truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth: for He shall not speak of Himself; but whatsoever He shall hear, that shall He speak: and He will show you things to come. He shall glorify Me [Yahushua/Jesus]: for He shall receive of Mine, and shall show it unto you. (John 16:13-14)

Notice what this passage teaches: that the Spirit of Truth, the Holy Spirit, does not promote Himself, but He seeks to glorify the Son of God, Yahushua Messiah [Jesus Christ].

The Holy Spirit’s guidance into all truth will first of all be a revealing of the truth of Yahushua as the Son of God and as the Messiah, Who is The Truth:

Yahushua [Jesus] said unto him, I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life: no man comes unto the Father, but by Me. (John 14:6)

It is so very important to understand this principle in order to recognize the Holy Spirit’s guidance!

Any guidance that does not glorify the truth and purposes of Yahushua Messiah (Jesus Christ) is NOT guidance from the Holy Spirit!

This important principle of truth helps us know the Holy Spirit’s guidance! We must be vigilant to recognize any subtle, deviant counsel that rejects Yahushua as Messiah and Saviour.

Second:

And I [Yahuwah/the LORD] will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within you; and I will take the stony heart out of their flesh, and will give them an heart of flesh: that they may walk in My statutes, and keep My ordinances, and do them: and they shall be My people, and I will be their God. (Ezekiel 11:19-20)

A new heart also will I [Yahuwah/the LORD] give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put My spirit within you, and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you shall keep My judgments, and do them. (Ezekiel 36:26-27)

For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith Yahuwah [the LORD]; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people. (Hebrews 8:10)

If we will look carefully at the above Scriptures we can see that Yahuwah pours out His gift of the Holy Spirit upon us in order to give us a deep and strong heart-felt desire to walk in obedience to His Torah — His instructions, His teachings, and His guidelines. By the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit within us, Father’s children have the grace [His enablement] to walk as Yahushua walked’:

He who says he abides in Him [Yahushua/Jesus] ought himself also to walk even as He walked. (1John 2:6)

Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear. (Hebrews 12:28; see also Romans 1:5 and 2Corinthians 9:8)

We can walk according to Yahuwah’s righteous and holy instructions because that is the whole purpose of why He writes His Torah on our heart.

By Father’s great grace through the gift of the Holy Spirit, we are enabled to walk by faith and abound in every ‘good work’ — the good works of Biblical righteous behaviour through the keeping of Yahuwah’s loving commandments, and doing those things that are pleasing in His sight (1John 3:22). The ‘good works’ done according to Father’s instructions and counsel are done solely out of our heart’s consuming love for Yahuwah!

Our hearts yearn with burning desire to draw closer and closer to Father, and therefore we learn the thoughts of His heart, His counsel, and ALL of His Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments. We learn to not reject any of His teachings, including the foundational teachings within the Torah. Father wants us to learn His desires for His children — to restore and magnify the Torah and make it honourable (Isaiah 42:21).

We love Yahuwah, and therefore we keep His commandments (John 14:15)! This is the motivation for our obedience to Torah and all of the Scriptures. Our understanding is opened up to the joy of walking in faithfulness to Father’s teachings with confidence!

Because we are redeemed out of the hand of the evil one, cleansed by the precious blood of Yahushua Messiah, we therefore love Yahuwah with all our heart! And as a result, we have a greater measure of Yahuwah’s blessings, promised to those who delight in His Torah (see Revelation 5:5-10; Romans 3:24-26; 7:22; Psalms 1:2; 112:1; 119:100; 119:174).

As we saw in The Torah: The Key to Unlocking the God’s Word, many of Yahushua’s Words point us back to obedience to the teachings and counsel, given ‘from the beginning‘ – in the Torah!

One Last Thought

The Scriptures tell us that when we receive the gift of the Holy Spirit, we are receiving the person, the Spirit of Yahuwah Elohim, the Holy One of Israel, the High and Lofty One who inhabits eternity. The Comforter, the Holy Spirit, is the very presence of the Living God, the heavenly Father, who is the Mighty One of Israel.

Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but [we have received] the Spirit which is of God. (1Corinthians 2:12)

The Holy Spirit of God is the presence of Yahuwah Himself!

This is amazing! — the Spirit of the living God given to us, His children. The Spirit of the living God dwelling within us to guide us and to lead us! If we will only ask Him! He wants us to ask Him for this awesome gift — the gift of the Holy Spirit!

Once we have received the Holy Spirit, He becomes our personal and loving Guide, guiding us into all truth and enabling us, by His grace, to walk according to His Word, keeping His commandments, given to us from the beginning (Psalm 119:160).
