All of us know there are times when we would love to find a place to hide, a place hidden away from troubles. This world (so full of grief) is a restless cesspool of aggravations and irritations. Even taking a vacation can turn into a major headache.
Is there any hidden place where we could find some real peace and rest—a place hidden from the problems and the turmoil? Wouldn’t you like to find a hidden place to get some peace?
Sometimes the need for hiddenness is a matter of life or death. History is full of stories of those who have tried desperately to secure a safe place hidden from the turmoil; stories of people looking for a place of safety, hiding from those who want to kill, steal, destroy. The movie Schindler’s List is a classic example—especially the little girl in the red coat captured by the Nazis. She looked for a hidden place of protection, but alas, she failed.
There is a day coming when people all over the world will be looking for hiding places—a place to hide from the devastation that is coming. It is a day when men’s hearts will fail for fear… afraid for what is coming, afraid for seeing the very powers of heaven shaken.
That day is mentioned in the Bible as the “Day of the LORD.” The prophet Isaiah spoke of that Day 2500 years ago, as did the apostle Paul and Messiah Yahushua (the Hebrew name of the Saviour as revealed in the Bible, also known by the Greek name Jesus). All spoke of that day as a day of desolation:
Howl ye; for the day of the LORD is at hand; it shall come as a destruction from the Almighty. Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate. (Isaiah 13:6,9)
And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. (Luke 21:25,26)
This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. (2Tim 3:1)
In the Bible, we see that God has told many of the prophets what would happen at the end of the age. The apostles also saw the end of days, and declared the coming devastation to be a time of great sorrow and mourning, when men everywhere will be desperate for a hiding place:
…And lo, there was a great earthquake… the sun became black… the moon became as blood… the stars of heaven fell unto the earth… the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together… every mountain and island were moved out of their places. …the kings of the earth… the great men… the rich… the chief captains… the mighty… every bondman (slave), and every free man, hid themselves in dens… in the rocks of the mountains; And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us… hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne… from the wrath of the Lamb: For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand? (Rev 6:12-17)
Everyone on the whole earth will be affected by this “great and terrible Day of the LORD.” Sudden destruction shall come on all the earth—no place will be exempt.
Already there are wonders in the heavens and signs in the earth. All over the earth, unusual things are happening—unprecedented increases in earthquakes, tornadoes, volcanoes, flooding. Strange things are happening everywhere. So, why all these bizarre events?
These natural occurrences are not the fury of “Mother Nature.” No. It’s the fury and wrath of Almighty God. “I heard a great voice out of the temple (of heaven) saying to the seven angels, Go your ways, pour out the vials of the wrath of God upon the earth.” (Rev 16:1)
It is no wonder that men’s hearts will fail and people everywhere will fight for a place to hide. None of us will be able to withstand the wrath of God. All of us will wish we could escape into a hiding place and get out of the way of the destruction and devastation. But why will all this happen? Why is God’s wrath being poured out? Is there an explanation? Yes, Isaiah tells us the reason:
Behold, the LORD maketh the earth empty… maketh it waste (desolate), and turneth it upside down, and scattereth abroad the inhabitants thereof…. The earth also is defiled under the inhabitants thereof; because they have transgressed the laws (transgressed God’s Torah, the loving instructions of God), they have changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant. (Isaiah 24:1-5)
Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it. (Isaiah 13:6,9)
It is because we have sinned against the God of the Universe, the Maker of Heaven and Earth. God’s wrath is against the hard-hearted, sinful ways of mankind. (Rom. 2:5) Each one of us has rejected God’s instructions found in the Bible and have gone our own way. Our sins have separated us from our Maker and the payment for sin is death.
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; (Rom 3:23)
For the wages of sin is death. (Rom 6:23)
All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way. (Isaiah 53:6)
But isn’t there a solution? Isn’t God a loving God? Isn’t there a hiding place for the people of God? Yes, there is a solution. Yes, there is a hiding place… but only for a few—only for those who have turned to God, have cried out to Him for His mercy, have believed His Word… only those who have believed on the only Name given among men can we be saved—the name Yahushua Messiah, God’s Son. There is salvation in NONE other.
…the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Rom 6:23)
Yahushua Messiah said in John 14:6 “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” Salvation and hiddenness is found through none other. A hiding place of our own efforts is worthless. None of us can make a hiding place adequate enough, because our own strength, ability, and goodness will prove totally useless.
Each one of us must personally acknowledge to God that our own wisdom and efforts are not good enough. Believe that God loves you! He has provided a way of salvation for you! He has provided an entrance for you into His Kingdom!
God wants you to come to Him, seek Him for His help and His guidance. He tells us in the Bible:
For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (John 3:16)
Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.(Rom 10:13)
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanses us from all sin. (1John 1:7)
By his own blood (Christ Jesus) entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us. (Heb 9:12)
Blessed are they that do His commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. (Rev 22:14)
In the Bible, God tells us that He sent His Son Yahushua to this earth, to die in our place, and to become a sacrifice on our behalf. Yahushua came to redeem and to save sinners—to save ‘whosoever’ will repent, come to Him, follow Him, obey Him. Cry out to God right now for His mercy. Ask Him to forgive you, to cleanse you of your sin with the only provision given for removal of sin—the precious blood of His Son, Yahushua the Messiah.
Yahushua Messiah came to seek and to save the lost. He offered Himself as the perfect, sinless sacrifice unto God, to pay the price for our sins and to redeem us from our iniquities (breaking God’s commands). He arose from the dead, and sits at the right hand of God, praying for us, interceding for us. He loves those who trust in Him! He is near to all who call on Him in true sincerity.
God will bring His people into His Kingdom—into the haven of His protection. God wants to protect you. But, His most urgent passion is for protecting your “eternal destiny” – and that protection is found only in His Son, Yahushua Messiah.
God’s plan of salvation offers us the greatest love, the greatest escape of all, and grants us entrance into the heavenly Kingdom. None of us can change the natural elements, but we can cry out to our Creator for His help, love, and wisdom. He offers hope and He promises to call His people into a place of hiding:
Come, my people, enter thou into thy chambers, and shut thy doors about thee: hide thyself as it were for a little moment, until the indignation be overpast. For, behold, the LORD cometh out of his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity (Isaiah 26:20,21)
Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble. (Psa 32:7)
God has for centuries sent His Word and His messengers to every generation to reveal His Ways and His Love. Seek Him now for entrance into His Kingdom. Read and believe His Word, the Bible. Repent (stop sinning, and start obeying God). Become baptised (immersed in water) as your first step of obedience. He will turn your life around, if you allow Him to do so.
Call out to God today. Say a prayer to Him. Tell Him that you need Him. Here’s a prayer that may help you know what to say to God:
Dear God:
“I know I am a sinner. I believe Your Son died in my place. I ask You to save me, and to cleanse me from my sins by the blood of Yahushua (Jesus). I ask You to forgive me for my sins. I want to turn, and live my life for You.”
“I ask You to come into my life and fill me with Your Holy Spirit. I ask You to help me to turn away from sin, and help me to follow You. Bring me into Your Kingdom, and make me Your child. Amen.”
