“No good thing will He withhold” is a phrase in the Scripture that refers to God’s generosity.
Yahuwah Elohim [the LORD God] is exceedingly generous in many ways! But this phrase – “no good thing will He withhold” – has a condition attached to it.
Here is the entire verse:
For Yahuwah Elohim [the LORD God] is a sun and shield: Yahuwah will give grace and glory: no good thing will He withhold from them that walk uprightly. (Psalms 84:11)
The condition for being a recipient of Yahuwah’s good and abundant provisions is to be among them that walk “uprightly”.
In other words, when we are living and behaving in a way that is ‘upright’ in God’s eyes, then we can expect this wonderful promise to be ours — that Yahuwah will not withhold any good thing — from those who walk uprightly!
But what does it mean to walk uprightly, according to the Scriptures?
Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression. (Psalms 19:13)
Righteousness keepeth him that is upright in the way: but wickedness overthroweth the sinner. (Proverbs 13:6)
The highway of the upright is to depart from evil: he that keepeth his way preserveth his soul. (Proverbs 16:17)
As these verses teach us, walking uprightly means we will separate ourselves from evil, and we will walk according to Yahuwah’s righteous standards. It means we will avoid sinning (1John 3:4), and learn how to work righteousness (Isaiah 26:7-10), as required by Yahuwah.
Yahuwah will be good to those who are “upright” — those who are following after the Righteous One, Yahushua Messiah [Jesus Christ] (Jeremiah 23:5-6). Those who walk uprightly, and work righteousness, and speak the truth in their heart are on The Pathway to dwelling in Yahuwah’s holy hill (Psalms 15:2; Acts 10:35).
If our focus is turned toward Yahuwah, seeking the heavenly Father with a fervent desire to honour Him by keeping His Word, living before Him in honesty and integrity, then we will know the reward of His goodness.
An Open Book
Do we not realize that our life is an ‘open book’ before God? We cannot hide anything from God. He sees what we do in our behaviour toward our family and friends. He sees what we do in the seclusion of our home or car.
God is always with us, watching and following us each moment! This should inspire us to live before Him ‘uprightly’ and have a real concern for what He desires of us.
It makes a huge difference in our behaviour to remember that Yahuwah Elohim is always beholding the things we do and say. He knows our thoughts and actions every minute of the day.
Yahuwah Elohim’s character of purity, lovingkindness, truthfulness, and power is the reason for seeking to live in such a way that we would never offend Him, that we would not violate His Word. He is worthy of all our attempts to seek to please Him, both in the small, intimate ways, and in the big, great ways.
He loves each one of us. We are precious to Him! And He wants to help us be as He is — true and good, and living according to His Word: “Be ye holy, as I am holy” (1Peter 1:13-16).
When we are seeking to walk uprightly, following Yahushua Messiah’s [Jesus Christ’s] example, for He always did what pleased the Father (John 8:29), then we can expect to receive blessings from Yahuwah that result in great enrichment to our life, blessings that have no sorrows:
The blessing of Yahuwah [the LORD], it maketh rich, and He addeth no sorrow with it. (Proverbs 10:22)
He Is Watching Us
As we seek Yahuwah’s guidance and strength and grace, asking His help to order our affairs and behaviour in a proper and honest way, then Father God opens up salvation and rescue for us, delivering us out of our troubles! (See Psalms 50:23)
May it be that you and I will walk in the ways of Yahuwah, clinging to His good and right ways revealed in His WORD, sometimes referred to as The Ancient Paths.
By Father’s great love and mercy, one of the ‘good things’ Father will give us is the ability to maintain our integrity before Him, and the help we need to go from strength to strength (Psalms 84:5-7).
Let us therefore remember — God is watching us, as well as all those within the great cloud of witnesses (Hebrews 12:1-2).
When we are walking ‘uprightly’, seeking to live according to the purity of His WORD, then His wonderful promise is ours: no good thing will He withhold from them that walk uprightly!
