Preparing For His Appearing: the Feast of Trumpets

Today there is a great moving of the Holy Spirit worldwide. As we discussed in The Torah: The Key to Unlocking God’s Word, this is a move of the Holy Spirit to restore a greater understanding of Father’s heart for His people.

This current restoration is a renewal of the understanding that ALL of God’s inspired Word — including the Torah, the Writings, and the Prophets — are absolutely necessary instructions for God’s people, in order for them to walk as Yahushua Messiah [Jesus Christ] walked (1John 2:6), and for them to be conformed into His image (Romans 8:29).

Yahuwah Elohim [the Hebrew name for the LORD God] is opening the eyes of the wild olive branches — the Gentile Believers in Yahushua Messiah (Romans 11:17). Yahuwah is revealing many of the hidden treasures of the wisdom and knowledge of Messiah — treasures found within ALL the Scriptures, from Genesis to Revelation. This Holy Spirit restoration of God’s Word is preparing Father’s people for Messiah’s appearing!

Instructions For Holiness

Those who have begun to enter into this mighty move of God are having their spiritual eyes opened, and the foggy understanding of God’s Word cleared up. Our understanding is beginning to open up to the joy of walking in faithfulness to Father’s teachings with confidence!

We are discovering the great importance of walking in Biblical ‘holiness‘ [set-apart-ness].

Most of the instructions for Biblical holiness are found in the Torah, also called “The Law of Liberty,” which is Father’s loving and ‘wondrous’ teachings and instructions and guidelines for His People (James 1:25, 2:12; Psalms 119:18).

More and more, we are learning from Messiah, and also from the apostle Paul (John 6:53-54; Acts 18:21; 1Cor 4:16; 5:8; 11:1), that one major item necessary for our walking in Biblical holiness is the observance of Yahuwah’s moadim, His Appointed Times:

Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, Concerning the feasts [moadim] of Yahuwah [the LORD], which ye shall proclaim to be holy convocations, even these are my feasts [moadim]. (Leviticus 23:2)

The Hebrew word moed [Strongs number 04150] means “an appointed time or festival” [mo-ad-im is the plural].

Yahuwah’s annual appointment Feast Days are His appointments when He meets with His people.

Down through history, the established church has called the Biblical Feast Days ‘Jewish.’ But according to Scripture, these Feast Days are not ‘Jewish’ Feast Days. These are Yahuwah‘s Feast Days! And, our observance of these appointments with our heavenly Father is part of walking in the FULL counsel of the Scriptures.

The apostle Paul told us, all the Scriptures are profitable … for instruction in righteousness” (2Timothy 3:16). When Paul wrote those words to Timothy, the ‘Scriptures’ that Paul was referring to were the Torah, the Prophets, and the Writings, what we now call the ‘Old Testament’ writings.

And according to the apostle Paul (Acts 18:21; 1Cor 5:8), a very important part of the life of followers of Messiah is their participation in Yahuwah’s Feast Days. This is a major ingredient in our preparation for Messiah’s appearing.

Yahuwah’s Feast Days

As we approach the beginning of the Fall (Autumn) Feasts of Yahuwah, we begin to reflect on the great significance of these annual Feast Days.

In this writing, I want to focus on the first of the three annual Fall Feasts. This first feast is known as Yom Te’ruah or the Feast of Trumpets. Also known as Rosh HaShanah, this feast is literally the ‘Memorial Day of Shouting’ or the ‘Memorial Day of Blowing of Trumpets.’

The Feast of Trumpets occurs on the first day of the seventh Biblical month, which occurs sometime in the Roman calendar month of September. It begins the moment the new moon is sighted, and is accompanied with the Blowing of theShofar.’ This moment marks the start of the first day of the seventh Biblical month.

Since it is not always easy to predict exactly when the sliver of the new moon will be sighted, this feast is therefore known among the Jewish community as the day in which “no man knows the day and hour.” No one can predict exactly when this day will begin, as the new moon must be seen by two or three witnesses, in order to establish the matter of when the new month begins (Matthew 18:16).

This hints to the same warning that Yahushua [Jesus] told us in Matthew 24:

And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And He shall send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other…. But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. (Matthew 24:30-36)

According to Yahushua, His appearing will occur in the day and hour that no man knows. This is a direct reference to the Feast of Trumpets.

The Instructions For the Feast of Trumpets

Yahuwah Elohim [the LORD God] directs His people to observe this Feast of Trumpets, and keep it every year as a High Sabbath, a holy convocation:

Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, In the seventh month, in the first day of the month, shall ye have a [keeping of] sabbath, a memorial of blowing of trumpets [teruah], an holy convocation. (Leviticus 23:24)

And in the seventh month, on the first day of the month, ye shall have an holy convocation; ye shall do no servile work [usual labour or service]: it is a day of blowing the trumpets [teruah], unto you. (Numbers 29:1)

When we look at the Hebrew word for ‘blowing of trumpets’ [Strongs number 08643 – teruah], we see that the word ‘teruah‘ can mean clamor, or acclamation of joy or a battle cry, or a clangor of trumpets as an alarm, blowing of trumpets, joy, jubile, loud noise, rejoicing, shouting, joyful sound.

So this Yom Te’ruah is to be a ‘Day of Blowing of Trumpets’ with much loud noise! It is also to be a Memorial Day — a Day of Remembrance.

But what are we to remember?

Remember What?

If this is a memorial day, what is it we are to remember? What makes this special Day to be a Memorial Day?

The Scriptures seems to be silent as to what exactly we are to remember. But there are many possibilities of what we are to remember!

The Rule of ‘First Mention’ in the Scriptures is very helpful and significant in our search for what we are to remember. The Rule of ‘First Mention’ is to find within the Scriptures where a word or phrase is ‘first’ mentioned.

Where in the Scriptures do we find the ‘first mention’ of making a loud noise by the sounding of a trumpet?

It is found in the book of Exodus:

And Yahuwah [the LORD] said unto Moses, Lo, I come unto thee in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with thee, and believe thee for ever. . . .  on the third day in the morning, … there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud upon the mount, and the voice of the trumpet [‘shofar’] exceeding loud; so that all the people that was in the camp trembled. And mount Sinai was altogether on a smoke, because Yahuwah [the LORD] descended upon it in fire: and the smoke thereof ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly. And when the voice of the trumpet [‘shofar’] sounded long, and waxed louder and louder, Moses spake, and God answered him by a voice. And Yahuwah [the LORD] came down upon mount Sinai, on the top of the mount . . . . (Exodus 19:9-20)

This passage reveals the ‘first mention’ in the Scriptures when ‘the voice of the trumpet’ [Hebrew word ‘shofar‘ – Strongs number 07782 ] sounded long, and became louder and louder. This was a time when Yahuwah, in visible form as the WORD of Yahuwah [which is the pre-incarnate Messiah Himself], came down on Mt. Sinai, and spoke to the people the Ten Commandments.

It is no wonder that ‘all the people in the camp trembled!’ Yahuwah came down with thunderings and lightnings and a thick cloud, and the long and loud trumpet sound. It must have been a frightening moment!!

Because of the rule of ‘first mention’, this event of His appearing on Mt. Sinai, and the people’s preparation for His appearing, is likely what Father wants us to remember! He wants us to remember this loud sounding voice of the trumpet which was like a spiritual alarm clock for God’s people. Yahuwah wants us to remember every year, this loud ‘shouting’ sound that announced, “Wake up, and prepare! Get ready for meeting with Yahuwah Elohim!”

It is this message of “Wake up and get ready!” that gives us a major clue of the meaning of this Memorial of the Feast of Trumpets. This feast is a time to remember Father’s ‘alarm clock’ to wake up His people, so that we would prepare ourselves to meet with Him!

Father’s Spiritual Alarm Clock

It is on the Feast of Trumpets, or Yom Te’ruah, when we are to wake up, and remember our Creator coming to meet with His people!

We are to remember His mighty greatness, His beautiful holiness, and His infinite love and mercy. This special Appointed Time is when we are to hear the sound of loud shouting and blowing of trumpets, as a way of waking us up from our spiritual slumber.

This spiritual-alarm-clock Day is Father’s way of saying, “Wake up and prepare yourself!”

The Feast of Trumpets is the alarm clock that occurs ten days before the solemn High Sabbath Day known as Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, also known “the Day of Sealing of Judgment.”

The ten days between the Feast of Trumpets and Yom Kippur are ten days of preparation known as the “Days of Awe.” These are ten days in which we are to prepare to meet our Creator, the Holy One of Israel, Yahuwah Elohim.

During these ten days, we are to prepare ourselves by forgiving others, by righting wrongs we have done, by making amends, and by seeking to be obedient to any of Messiah’s commandments we have disobeyed.

We prepare ourselves by seeking Messiah in the Scriptures, as we listen for the voice of the Holy Spirit to point out anything hidden within us that needs to be confessed and cleansed, so that we can be cleansed according to Psalms 139:23-24 and 1John 1:9.

This Feast of Trumpets is a reminder for us each year, to restore and maintain a pure and humble heart, a repentant spirit, and to remember our duty to walk before Father in purity and obedience. It is a time to remember the words of Isaiah the prophet:

Seek ye Yahuwah [the LORD] while He may be found, call ye upon Him while He is near: Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man [forsake] his thoughts: and let him return unto Yahuwah, and He will have mercy upon him; and [return] to our God, for He will abundantly pardon. (Isaiah 55:6-7)

In summary, Yom Te’ruah is to be a wake-up call, and a ‘Remembrance Day’ of that very Day on Mt. Sinai, when ‘the voice of the trumpet sounded long, growing louder and louder,’ to announce the appearing of Yahuwah to speak to His people. And in preparation for this event, Yahuwah told His people to prepare themselves — to make themselves ‘ready’ to meet with Him.

Be Ready

Before Yahuwah appeared, He required the people to prepare for His appearing:

Yahuwah [the LORD] said unto Moses, Go unto the people, and sanctify them to day and to morrow, and let them wash their clothes, And be ready against the third day: for the third day Yahuwah [the LORD] will come down in the sight of all the people upon mount Sinai. (Exodus 19:10-11)

In the same way, Yahuwah again requires His people to prepare for His appearing in the very near future:

And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with Him to the marriage: and the door was shut. (Matthew 25:10)

Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to Him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and His wife hath made herself ready. (Revelation 19:7)

These verses, teach us that Father wants His people to sanctify themselves, to get ready, in preparation for His appearance. Yahuwah wants us to set ourselves apart [sanctify, to be holy], and be ready on the third day, when He appears. He requires His people to be clean and pure, both inwardly and outwardly.

This, Thirsty Soul, is what Yahuwah’s children need to do at this time of preparing for this annual ‘Appointed Time’ of the Feast of Trumpets. We need to begin to clean up our lives, and seek a cleansing, both inwardly and outwardly. As we approach this special Appointment Day with Yahuwah, we need to turn our hearts to God, seeking His help to do any necessary repentance, to be ready to meet with Him.

Will This Be The Year of His Appearing?

Again, Yahushua said that no man knows the day and hour of His appearing (Matthew 24:36-37). Perhaps it is the uncertain timing of the Feast of Trumpets that Yahushua was referring to. Perhaps all the voices of the trumpets that are to be heard on this Remembrance Day are to announce the appearing of Yahuwah’s Son, Yahushua Messiah.

Who knows whether THIS year, will be the year that Yahuwah will fulfill this annual Feast Day, this Day of Yom Te’ruah, and appear to His people through the return of His Son, Yahushua Messiah?

Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Yahushua Messiah [Jesus Christ]; As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: But as He which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of behaviour; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy. (1Peter 1:13-16)

These verses teach us to ‘Be holy [set-apart], as He is holy [set-apart].’

Just as Moses instructed the people to be ready for Yahuwah’s presence, by sanctifying themselves, setting themselves apart according to His instructions, making themselves clean and pure — we too need to do the same!

We need to be sober-minded, set ourselves apart from the entanglements of this corrupt world, and seek to be vessels of honour — clean and pure, prepared for the appearing of our great God and Saviour, Yahushua Messiah.

This is the time to carefully consider what Yahushua said:

Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is.” (Mark 13:33)
Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not.” (Luke 12:40)

Let us not refuse Him whose mighty voice “will shake, not only the earth, but also the heavens” (Hebrews 12:25-26)!

Will we have ears to hear His annual alarm clock sound?

Will we hear “the voice of the archangel” and “the trumpet sound of God”?

Will we prepare ourselves, make ourselves ready, before He appears?

For this we say unto you by the word of the Master [Lord],
that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Master
shall not prevent them which are asleep [have died].
For the Master Himself shall descend from heaven with a shout,
with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of Elohim
and the dead in Messiah [Christ] shall rise first:
Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds,
to meet the Master in the air:
and so shall we ever be with the Master.
(1Thessalonians 4:15-17)

These verses sure sound like the Feast of Trumpets!

Who knows whether this is the year that our ‘dress rehearsal’ of this annual Appointed Time, could be the actual Day that ushers in the appearing of Yahushua Messiah?

Many features of this present age are ripe for the coming of our Master and Saviour. We are surely living in the days that are as the days of Noah and as the days of Lot, and “so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man” (Luke 17:26-30).

The days of Noah and Lot were full of violence and debauchery and perversion. These same characteristics are rampant expressions of our current times. The signs are everywhere that we are nearing the end of the age, when God will usher in the final days of tribulation. We do not have much time left to prepare.

His Calendar of Events

Yahuwah desires that all His children would begin to line up with His Word, to be in-step with Messiah, the Creator of the Universe — that they would enter into His time-frame, into His calendar of events!

These are the days to climb on-board, and go with Father’s agenda. To do this, we must first get off the worldly locomotive of religious doctrines, and entanglements with earthly pleasures and treasures.

These are the days to embrace Father’s Truth, and begin to follow the Shekinah Glory Cloud of the Holy Spirit’s current restoration of living according to Torah.

This is the time to pray with sincere desire for a genuine cleansing of our soul, and seek for more of God’s presence in our lives!

This is the time to seek God’s help to walk as Messiah walked (1John 2:6), being obedient to the full instructions of Messiah’s Words — including the Words Messiah gave to Moses — which are written from the beginning of the Book!

This is the time to adjust ourselves to Yahuwah’s time-frame, His calendar, and move in harmony with the Holy Spirit, even if it seems unfamiliar to us.

Be In-Sync With God’s Agenda

The heavens are in-sync with Father’s calendar of events.

As we can see in Genesis 1:14, the word ‘signs’ is the Hebrew word ‘oth‘ [Strongs number 226], which means ‘a signal, a beacon, a banner, an omen.’ The heavens are signs as signals and messages related to the timing of God’s feast days!

Celestial events, including eclipses, are for us to take serious notice of. They are not just public ‘spectacles’ or remarkable events of ‘science.’ They are part of Yahuwah’s divine plan to send us messages!

The heavens were designed from the beginning, to tell His story, to send warnings, and to reveal the exact timing of His major events [think of the Star of Bethlehem].

The Creator of the heavens wrote His story and plans in great detail into the stars of the sky: The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth His handywork! (Psalms 19:1)

It is time to be yielded, repentant, and willing to align ourselves to God’s written Word and His calendar of events.

It is time to walk in obedience to all that Messiah is restoring to His people, including the annual observance of Yahuwah’s Feast Days.

Let us seek Father in our prayer closet — seeking to be humble and prepared for this important ‘Appointed Time’ — the Feast of Trumpets!

Thank You Abba Father, for Your great mercy toward me, and all of Your children. Thank You for all Your loving instructions and guidelines. Create in me a clean heart and renew a right spirit within me. Help me to be of a willing and obedient heart, ready to receive Your direction. Help me to prepare myself to be ready for Your return. Give me ears to hear the joyful sound of Your trumpet, announcing Your appearing. In Yahushua Messiah’s name I pray. Amen.

“Wisdom comes to us in the Scripture, and presents to us a choice, showing the dividing of the pathway — the Pathway of Life and the Pathway of Death. Wisdom warns — if we are to walk in the Pathway of Life, we have to hate evil. Wisdom hates pride and arrogance. These are subtle things that can begin without our scarcely being aware of them. Evil behavior, perverse speech — these are things wisdom hates. If we are to walk in the Way of Life, we have to hate what wisdom hates” (See Proverbs 8:12-13).

The Son of God:
Yahuwah Elohim [the Hebrew name for the LORD God], Who is the Living, Eternal God, Creator of all things, Who can do whatever His pleases, came to this earth, born into this world through a virgin birth. He did this to communicate His character, His nature, His power, His purpose, and His plans. Only Yahushua Messiah [Jesus Christ] could have accomplished this mission, because . . . He was not an ordinary man!!
