How can we ever walk with Yahuwah Elohim [the Hebrew name for the LORD God], and know His ways, if we are not quiet with Him? Walking with Yahuwah requires us to listen to Him.
When seeking to know the Father by studying and obeying His Words [the Bible], that means we need to learn to be quiet with Him.
Yahuwah is the WISE-est of the wise. He offers the words of Eternal Life! His wisdom is far above our own thoughts and imaginations. However, if we are to know and learn HIS wisdom, then we must quiet ourselves. Why is that?
Because hearing Yahuwah’s Words of wisdom are generally spoken in “a still, small voice.” Words of wisdom are usually “heard in quiet.“ And, God’s wisdom is “pure, peaceable, and gentle” (1Kings 19:12 and Ecclesiastes 9:17 and James 3:17)
I am talking about having a time of secret prayer and studying God’s Word, sometimes known as a ‘Quiet Time’. Talking with our Creator, reading and studying the Bible, will result in learning His wisdom. Being quiet with Father God, being in His Presence is a way of drinking — drinking from the Fountain of the Water of Life.
I am not talking about the quietness of yoga, buddhism, transcendental meditation (TM), or any other enchantments, trances, or spiritual mixtures! Those false, deceptive ways are not the Way of Yahuwah!
The prophet Jeremiah warns God’s people to not follow in the ways of the heathen and the foreign nations around them (Jeremiah 10)! Such foreign ways deceive and defile the people, and the land (Deuteronomy 8:19,20 and 18:9).
A ‘Quiet Time’ with Abba Father begins by verbally acknowledging Yahuwah, the Mighty One of Israel, and His Son, Yahushua Messiah [Jesus Christ]! (If you have never talked to God, please see the brief article: Good News!.)
We spend time with Father by reading His Word, learning His Word, and talking to Him about His guidance and His Ways. This Quite Time helps to strengthen our faith and our resolve to obey our heavenly Father. Our Quiet Time calms our spirit, and helps to impart a deep and confident trust in Him. We talk to Father from our heart during our Quiet Time, trusting in His love and care for us. We talk to Him so that He can incline His ear unto us.
Spending time with the Heavenly Father is to drink from the Water of LIFE. This is a mystery. The natural man cannot discern the things of the Spirit of Yahuwah, because drinking from the Water of Life is a spiritual action, done in faith and obedience to the Word of Yahuwah.
The Deep Waters of Yahuwah
Just as the ‘Heroes of Faith’ [Hebrews chapter 11], spent time with Father, studied His Words, and grew strong in their faith, so we too can expect to grow strong in our faith when we are quiet, spending time with Yahuwah, seeking His Words of wisdom.
With You [Yahuwah] is the fountain of life: in Your light shall we see light. (Psalm 36:9)
He [Yahuwah] reveals the deep and secret things. (Daniel 2:22)
As the above verses show us, Yahuwah is the Fountain of Life. With Him is a deep, flowing spring of spiritual wisdom and practical knowledge! He is a Well of Living Water, springing up unto everlasting life!
Being alone with the heavenly Father and with His Words gives us the quietness and the peacefulness we so desperately need if we are to learn from Him.
Just as there is no noise in deep water, only a quiet stillness, so also, when we are quiet with Father, reading/studying His Word, seeking His direction – then springing up within us, we discover the comfort of the Scriptures and His Holy Spirit. We find that Yahuwah and His Word truly are a “wellspring of wisdom as a flowing brook.” (Proverbs 18:4 and Romans 15:4).
Father’s Words are as ‘deep waters’ — pure, refreshing, restoring. When we are earnestly seeking Father, then His Holy Spirit can reveal the deep waters of the Wells of Salvation. Little by little, we begin to know that a restoring, a transforming, is going on within us.
Noble Deeds
When I determine to have a Quiet Time with Yahuwah, it is always refreshing. However, it can be a battle to push everything aside to enter into a time of quietness with Him.
At first, I do not like the quiet. It seems lonely and uncomfortable. It is difficult for my restless soul to settle down!
It has been said: Anything noble and worthwhile is difficult! I will add — noble deeds are often lonely deeds.
Regardless of the difficulties, seeking Yahuwah Elohim is a very noble deed! And, my thirsty soul cries out for His Ways, so I push forward for what I need — cool, refreshing water from the River of Life. My soul cries out for the pure, Living Waters. When I am seeking Him, I learn that it is Yahuwah and His Word – the Fountain of Life – that my thirsty soul is truly satisfied.
Being Still
I pursue these times of quiet, alone time with Him regularly. My Quiet Time is when I study, and seek to learn Father’s Words [in the Bible]. Learning the Words of the Bible is like a security net. Knowing for myself what God’s Word actually says helps me guard against the counterfeits and traps of the enemy!
Talking to Father with my voice, sharing what is on my heart with Him, is an important part of a ‘Quiet Time.’
Each one of us can talk to Father as our dearest friend, opening up to Him, confessing faults, troubles, hopes. These conversations are good for us!
It is good to determine to make time for being still! We need to simplify our activities, and regularly be still until we know — know God’s guidance for us, know His promises for us, and begin to know “the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God!” (Romans 11:33)
Quietness
The apostle Paul said we ought to “study to be quiet” or “make it our ambition to lead a quiet life.” (1Thess 4:11)
Oh, this is so hard for me! There are tons of things I need to do — things I want to do, ought to do.
Quietness? That is the opposite of what goes on in the world around us. The whirling activities of the world press down on us, robbing us of quietness. The world delivers its visual and audio stimulus 24/7. There is no end to the barrage of input! Satan works incessantly to distract and deceive!
Yet Father calls us to “Be still and know — know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10). That does not mean to sit as a stone or a stick on the ground, indifferent and passive. We must guard against the popular, deceptive notion to ’empty our mind.’ No, the stillness and the quietness we need is a confident expectation and desire for learning to know Yahuwah Elohim, the Mighty One of Israel, trusting Him to reveal His direction for us!
We have been called to a hidden life — hidden with Yahushua Messiah. (Colossians 3:3) The world does not understand this. But those who long for, thirst for, the deep and living waters of Yahuwah, treasure the times of quietness with Him.
This is our time for drawing away from the noise and the restless ways of the world. We draw our strength, our joy, our contentment from being Quiet with Him.
“In silence and quietness, the devout soul advances in virtue and learns the hidden truths of Scripture.” — Thomas, à Kempis
Give Father Time to Work in You!
Give Father time to work in you by having your daily Quiet Time with Him. Ask His help to make your Quiet Time a vital part of your life.
This is a time for Yahuwah to soften you, to do His deep, intimate, conforming work in you — conforming you into His image, transforming you by the renewing of your mind, and changing you from glory to glory. Give Him time, and be sensitive to allow the Holy Spirit to reveal His wisdom and His plans for you. Sometimes all He shows us is just one little ‘baby step’ at a time. But it is exactly what we need!
A regular, daily Quiet Time with God is to diligently seek Him, learning His Words of wisdom, found only in the Bible. This is foundational to walking with Yahuwah!
Enoch ‘walked with’ Abba Father. They walked together and ‘God took him.’ Perhaps … they were having such a grand time that Father might have said, “Come on home with Me. We are closer to My place after all.” Genesis 5:24
Draw Water From The Wells of Salvation
Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD YAHUWAH is my strength and my song; He also is become my salvation. Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation. (Isaiah 12:2,3)
But without faith it is impossible to please Him: for he that comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him!! (Hebrews 11:6)
As the above verse teaches us, it is a joy to know God and learn His ways. Being quiet with Him, seeking His Word — this is to drink from the Wells of Salvation. This is a joyful refreshing for our thirsty soul. And, as we see in Hebrews 11:6, Yahuwah will reward those who diligently seek Him!
With time and patience, our Quiet Time will become more and more a joyful and blessed thing! Our times with our heavenly Father will become refreshing, and even essential, to our well-being. As Misty Edwards sings in her song, Soul Cry — “As the body dies without water, my soul dies without You.”
Let us seek for Yahuwah’s guidance and His Words of wisdom, which are so often heard in quiet!
